NAPLES, FL., September 15, 2009 - The Economic Development Council of Collier County (EDC) is pleased to announce that Prism Microwave is among 20 Florida companies, in 2009, to be honored with the Governor's Business Diversification Award.  Prism Microwave will be recognized today at a luncheon hosted by Florida's Governor Charlie Crist during Florida's 26th Industry Appreciation Week in Tallahassee at the Governor's Club.  The Governor's Business Diversification Awards promotes outstanding accomplishments made by the state's businesses.

Coordinated by Enterprise Florida, the awards recognize business achievements that advance the state's economy through job creation and distinctive community involvement and capital investment. Companies compete for awards in six categories: Business Expansion, Entrepreneurship, Export Excellence, Innovation, Newcomer and Green-to-Gold. Prism Microwave was chosen for this award by demonstrating a commitment to creating jobs for Floridians, increasing capital investment and promoting corporate citizenship.

"It is an honor to have a company from our community once again recognized on the statewide level for their exemplary accomplishments in creating high-value jobs, making capital investments and contributing to their communities," said Tammie Nemecek, EDC President. "Prism Microwave is helping to set the stage for a future economy that will serve all segments of our population very well for years to come."

Most recently, Prism Microwave was highlighted in the EDC's; Project Innovation, Innovators' Insights.  A program designed to highlight the accomplishments of our areas entrepreneurs and innovations of Collier County businesses.  Using the latest technology in media distribution channels, Prism Microwave was highlighted as a company that has stepped outside the box to generate jobs and drive change; these local trendsetters have forged new business opportunities to benefit not only their company but the entire community.  To view Prism Microwaves Innovators Insights video you may log on to www.projectinnovation.cc/insights/. The EDC also recognized Prism Microwave at the 2008 Excellence in Industry Award Gala last September in the Green-to-Gold category for their commitment to green and sustainable business practices.

Prism Microwave was founded in January 2008, in Naples, Florida.  Prism Microwave designs and manufactures wireless base station filter assemblies. Cell phone operators must purchase air space from the FCC. Cell phone calls and are required by law not to interfere with other bands of frequencies. Prism's products filter out everything except for their customers' calls. Since air space is expensive, they want to use as much of it as possible. Prism's mission is "Volume production of sophisticated ultra-reliable identical filter-based sub-assemblies maintaining a carbon neutral footprint". Prism started in Naples with six employees and has grown to 40 in Florida and 60 worldwide.

The EDC has participated in the Governor's Diversification Award for the past 26 years, during the annual Florida Industry Appreciation Week. Collier County has had a total of nine (9) Governor's Diversification Award recipients throughout the years, those companies include; Cable USA, NCH Healthcare System, Allen Systems Group, Center for Palliative Care, Stock Development, Health Management Associates (HMA), Airflyte Electronics Inc., ASG Software Solutions and Prism Microwave.

"These awards acknowledge the successes of a wide range of business leaders whose accomplishments have benefited our economy," said Enterprise Florida President & CEO John Adams Jr.  "Therefore, Industry Appreciation Week and the awards program celebrate their exemplary efforts and the attributes that brought them about:  innovation, entrepreneurship, corporate leadership, and volunteerism."

Each Governor's Award nominee competed with other companies, organizations, universities and colleges in markets similar to their own size (Mid, Major and Mega Markets). Naples was in the Major Market category with a countywide population of between 150,001 and 800,000.
